The Size of the World
This is a wonderful novel. To say that it addresses cross cultural living is to suggest that it is dogmatic or instructional and that is much to limiting a description -- but it does what all good novels should do: inform through the art of its narrative. Silber does this. Her stories are intricate and gentle and subtly intertwined with fully realized characters who experience ranges of emotions and responses. If you wonder about the size of the world, if you are connected into a multicultural or internationally dispersed family, if you like to read good and thoughtful fiction, then you will want to read this book.
