I had tried reading Patrick O'Banon's 'Master and Commander,' several times, and just couldn't get into his 18th Century writing style, and I really wanted to. I even tried listening to it, and that really didn't help either. I then read about James Haley by accident and was hooked on the first page. His writing style is so easy to read, it flows and is in modern US English. I just couldn't get pasted O'Banon's English speaking style/writing style. Also, it was entertaining to read about the Marine Corps' historic fight at 'Tripoli.' He also writes about the USS Constitution, which one day I'd like to visit.
