I really enjoyed the first book I read by Noelle Sickels, "The Medium", so much that I decided to try "The Shopkeepers Wife." Both books are well-written books that flow easily chapter by chapter and leave the reader wanting more! I am a history buff, and really enjoyed the way the author throws in historical tidbits along the way. Both books almost read as if they were journals or diaries kept by women who documented significant events in their lives. The author is able to make the reader feel as if he/she has stepped back in time and is experiencing all the feelings the characters in the book are describing. This book takes the reader back to a time when spouses were selected by family members and not because two people were in love. It explores a different time when husbands and wives were not openly intimate, and the problems that could crop up in a relationship because of this. This is an emotion packed book of love and despair, loneliness and companionship, suspicions and allegations, and finally murder. I really enjoyed reading this book, and will continue to buy books by this author.
