Leaphorn and Chee in Navajo Mystery
Tony Hillerman isn't just writing about mystery. He's also educating the outside world about Native American culture: Namely, Navajo. Both retired Lt Joe Leaphorn and newly married Sgt Jim Chee have solved intricate mystery after mystery that occurs on and/or around the Navajo Reservation. This time, we not only join Lt Leaphorn, but Sgt Bernie (Chee) Manuelito as they delve into the puzzle about a burned hand-woven Navajo rug, but what about that dead man they are trying to get a lead on....is he a witch? Can he shift shapes and maybe outwit even the legendary Leaphorn? Is that helpful curator really a friend? Or maybe he's a murderer.....and just how does that old case from when Leaphorn was a new Navajo officer fit into this apparently new puzzle?
The only way to solve this mystery for yourself is to settle in with our Navajo friends, as seen through the eyes of Hillerman, and to follow this wonderfuly rich cultural mystery. Join Leaphorn, Chee and Manuelito (the new Mrs. Chee) for an adventure among the mountains and magic of the Navajo people and legends. And remember: Walk in Beauty!

once more with feeling
Tony Hillerman has done it again. He has once more, improbably, topped himself. I am but a humble reader, but I recognize greatness, and Tony Hillerman is , in my opinion, one of the masters of fiction. He has been gracious enough to select a genre (Navaho Mysteries) that was seldom , if ever, written about so fascinatingly as Mr Hillerman has done , once again in this book, as with all his other efforts. The latest Hillerman Mystery is as good as a child's Christmas. Bravo!!!
