I enjoyed the book, it is a true accounting of how the schools got messed over during my childhood and have never recovered. Many think integration was the key, but it wasn't. I learned more in my segregated school, then the teachers really cared, they were paid so little it had to be about teaching and learning.

On Kozol,
The book is informational. I hope that the only reason anyone would need or want to read this book would be for their education and coming from an educational or social background... It is repetitive and exhausting at times. It isn't necessarily hard to read but it has some emotional factors to deal with if it is your first look at the problems in our wonderful country's schooling systems. I was required to read the book for a college education course.
