The Secret Bedroom was among the first books I read in the Fear Street series created by R.L. Stine. Since the original 90s cover art suggests that those who are looking for a supernatural tale of terror will be getting just what they asked for with the appealingly creepy image of a girl trying to keep a skeleton from leaving a hidden room, I could understand it if you are wondering if I was disappointed with the story contained between those two covers when I first read the book ages ago. Nope, I definitely was not! The Secret Bedroom concerns Lea, a girl who is no happier with the house she and her family have moved into than she is with Marci, a girl who has immediately become her enemy at her new school because of an accident in the cafeteria. Not only is the rundown house creepy, but it is in the scariest neighborhood in the small town of Shadyside: Fear Street, a residential neighborhood long rumored to be the source of mysterious disappearances, hideous murders, and strange, unexplained happenings. For Lea, the explanation for the weird sounds coming from the hidden attic room being that it is haunted is only the beginning of her terror. Catherine, the ghost who haunts the former bedroom, seems like a restless, unhappy girl at first. But Lea soon learns the hard way just how evil she really is when Catherine possesses her and uses her body for murder! Now she knows who killed the couple who died in the room a century earlier. Can anything help her escape from this nightmare?? Fans of old-school YA horror, such as the original Fear Street series, and the Point Horror series, will love this scary and suspenseful 167-page tale!
