Clive Owen and Kiera Knightly don't appear in this book, but their film version of the Arthur story could stand to credit the information found herein. David Day (who is, apparently, an authority on Tolkien) compiles what little verifiable historical information is available, and posits a theory on who and what Arthur truly was. He talks about the origin of many cycle elements, characters, and stories. Day reprints several early versions of basic Arthurian tales and their possible antecedents or influences (swords in stones and trees, for example), then picks apart the symbology. Anybody with an interest in the historical Arthur will find this both informative and entertaining. Plus, scholar and Python Terry Jones writes the introduction, which is a plus in my book.
