A must for anyone with a passion for languages.
A contemporary of the late Magnus Magnusson, and Tolkien, Einar Haugen has been for many years an undisputed authority on the evolution and use of the scandinavian languages, having produced an enormous, important, and highly influential body of work throughout his lifetime.
I discovered this book in a library in southern Germany some eleven years ago, and I have spent those eleven years searching for a copy of this rare and long out of print book to add to my collection of the few rare books about language history in northern Europe. This is a real treasure of a book that if like me you have had the great fortune to come across, and even greater fortune of owning I'm sure you will agree. A must for anyone with a real passion for language and language history. Highly informative and inspiring to read 'The scandinavian Languages: An Introduction to their History' forms a firm basis from which to pursue courses of study with regards to the Scandinavian, English, and other languages spoken within the United Kingdom, and Northern Europe.
Well done Alibris for making me a very happy girl!
