The word 'meritocracy' is now commonplace. However, most people seem to have missed the point of its originator. This book cleverly takes the meritocracy to its logical conclusion: with annual IQ testing and links to eugenics.
The case against the meritocracy is only touched upon, but I imagine Young didn't feel he needed to make it too overt. In an age where millions of parents are desperate for their children to go to a 'good' school, 'achieve', and become 'successful', the book is as relevant today as when it was written.
