Gene Fisher and Glen Chambers present an intriguing argument against the prevalent view of the War of Independence as revolution in the modern sense of the word. Rather, they point to the Prohibitory Act passed in secret by the English king and Parliament which essentially severs all ties with the colonies and declares them liable for invasion and conquest; thus forcing the colonists to resist and defend themselves. While use of additional original sources would potentially strengthen their argument, this writer is unaware of any successful attempts to disprove the Fisher/Chambers contention and so it stands after more than twenty years until such time as historians can produce source material that refutes their arguments.
