This excellent book can be read from two perspectives: that of a history buff or that of a researcher of military history. It rates 5 stars in both categories. For me, the greatest value of Nelson's book is how he used his expertise as a journalist to find and trace individual members in a military unit to find connections. These connections often led to additional facts and sometimes materials that let him reconstruct the history of Company D through its casualties and their families. A great method to aide anyone searching for details "lost" in time. The fact the resulting book is a wonderful history is icing on the cake!
