Kenneth W. Morgan was one of the first American academics to seriously study Hinduism, and a professor at Colgate University. I had the distinct privilege of taking two courses from him, the first on Hinduism, for which this was the text (as it was at many other colleges for decades. He compiled this book by having Indian experts in the major areas of Hinduism write chapters about their area of expertise. The result is a comprehensive and in-depth overview of the religion free of Western bias. All that's missing is Morgan's wry with that made his teaching a delight. There are few if any places better than this book to learn about this complex and beautiful religion.
