The 'Railway Years' is Laurie Driver's second outing as an author, his first being 'This Truckin' Life', This new book, like it's predecessor, is an anecdotal work covering the author's career as a trailer boy and truck driver on the railway. It documents the times from leaving school in 1962 through to his induction into British Rail LM Region as a trailer boy on parcels deliveries, carrying on with the company when its in-house transport changed its name to NCL and then on to Freightliner, BRS Taskforce and Exel Logistics, all railway's allied companies. It tells of his graduation from trailer boy to becoming the driver of a 3 ton Scammell Scarab, 3 wheeler, then on to heavier rigid vehicles and then to articulated vehicles rated at 32 tons and up to 44 tons. The book also gives a brief insight into life as a conductor/guard working on trains as Laurie did for a short while. The anecdotes contained within are mainly of the humorous type but are interspersed with more serious and informative sections. About the Author:- Laurie Driver is the pseudonym of Dennis Burnier Smith. He has worked in the haulage and transport industry for most of his working life. A good deal of this time was spent working for the railway's and its allied companies. Laurie recently retired and lives in the Manchester area.
