Even Hollywood buccaneers were never like this.

Fraser must have had a wonderful time writing this hysterical historical mishmash of adventures on the high--and frequently silly--seas. If you read this in public, prepare to have people looking at you wondering what the heck is that person laughing at? Loony plot, zany characters, and yet it truly reads as genuine literature.

Don't bother
Being a true lover of the Flashman series, Candlemass Road, Steel Bonnets, etc., I found this book to be too slapstick with too little substance. I would not recommend it, even to a true GMF lover.

Typical GMF
If you've read Flashman this has nothing new to offer. Same old same old. Mildly amusing, some good characterization, slightly titillating, all amounts to a very light read that would have been better if it was 100 pages shorter.
