None. Good Only. A scarce edition of The Progress of America, from the Discovery by Columbus to the Year 1846 by John MacGregor, Secretary to the Board of Trade; author of Commercial Statistics &c. First edition. In two volumes complete. With an introduction by the author to front of volume one and a details contents to front of both volumes. Volume one is 'Historical and Statistical'; volume two is 'Geographical and Statistical' with Supplements to rear. John MacGregor (1797-1857) was a Scottish statistician and politician. His family emigrated to Canada in 1803, sailing to Pictou, Nova Scotia. In 1806 they moved to Covehead on Prince Edward Island. As a young man MacGregor set up as a merchant in Charlottetown. In 1822 he served in the office of high sheriff; he was dismissed as a result of involvement in the dealings of Charles Douglass Smith. Put on trial at Smith's behest, he became popular and in 1824 a member of the House of Assembly. He left Canada, travelling through North America, collecting statistics. Bound by Westleys and Clark, London with label to rear pastedown to volume one. In cloth bindings. Externally, sound but with slight wear to extremities, some rubbing and marks to boards and institutional lettering to spines. Splitting to cloth to joints, which are starting. Hinges tender. Internally, generally firmly bound. Bright and generally clean throughout with only the odd spot and handling mark. Institutional label to front pastedown to volume one, blindstamps and ink annotations to front endpapers of volume two. Good Only.
