Composed of red-rose petals oz., dilute sulphuric acid 3j, water 10 fl.oz. Dose.--For an adult, fgj to fgij. For a child a year old, f3j. Syrupus Rosse Gallicse. B.P. Composed of red-rose petals 2 oz., sugar 30 oz., water 1 pint. Dose.--For an adult, f3j to fjss. For a child a year old, mxx to mix. It is but very slightly astringent, and is chiefly used for its colour. All the foregoing preparations depend for their astringency upon the presence of tannic or gallic acid; they are therefore incompatible with the salts and preparations of iron, most of them also with the stronger acids, alkalis and lime-water; oak-bark is also incompatible with cinchona. Mineral Astringents. Acidum Sulphuricum Dilutum.--Vide p. 40. Alumen. B.P. Dose.--For an adult, 10 grs. to 20 grs. For a child a year old, 2 grs. Alumen Ferricum. Prepared by dissolving peroxide of iron in sulphuric acid, and adding sulphate of potash. The per-oxide of iron takes the place of alumina in common alum. Dose.--For an adult, 5 grs. to 20 grs. For a child a year old, 2 grs. Alumen Sulpho Tannicum. This is a compound of alum with tannic acid, and is a very powerful and effective astringent. Dose.--For an adult, 5 grs. to 10 grs. For a child a year old, 1 gr.' Liquor Aluminis Compositus. Ph. Lond. Composed of sulphate of zinc and alum, of each 1 oz., water 3 pints. Used chiefly as a lotion, it contains 1 gr. of each of the salts in a fl.dr. Dose.--For an adult, f3j to f3ij. ...
