There are thousands of books that tell us about different theories for how to care for people, and I'm sure there are thousands more to come. But the frustration for myself and many others, I'm sure, is to search through all the books and find something that works. Something that doesn't just tell you the great dreams and visions for pastoral care, but actually tells you how to do it. I believe this is such a book. I am certainly no expert on pastoral care. But as perhaps a student coming into the field, I found this book invaluable. Through stories and discussion of various skills, with some discussion of a narrative approach, Carrie Doehring's book was certainly of use to me. It is recent, written from an experienced mind, and is applicable to a number of different contexts. Thank you Carrie.
