Excellent book, First in a series of three books ( The Australian trilogy) by Bryce Courtenay. The storyline keeps you going with characters you learn to care about. It will take a few extra days to read due to its length. Courtenay was a great writer, his most famous book, The Power of One, is a fantastic read also.

This is a good read. It is very well written and I am anxious to read the remainder of the series. Bryce Courtenay is now on of my favorite authors. Also recommended is Power of One. It is an AMAZING book!!

No potatoes involved
Courtenay wroe one good book, Power of One. All the rest seem based on sodomy and rape and put the reader off almost immediately.
