Many people are happy and relieved once they retire, but for Molly Halloran, retirement is monotonous and boring. Sure, she and her husband have the house of their dreams in Arizona and their three children are all grown and successful, but Molly longs for something to relieve her doldrums. Unfortunately, she gets her wish when her husband goes missing while on a business trip to the Middle East.
When the news gets out, her three lifelong friends are there for her. Within days, she and her companions, along with her son and his potential new boyfriend, are flying to Dubai, Saudi Arabia, per the demands of a kidnapper. Once they land, things become more complicated. She and her son soon discover the kidnappers motives are far more diabolical than they imagined.
E. William Podojilââ?¬â?¢s ââ?¬Å"The Poseidon Projectââ?¬Â? is more than a mystery story. Thereââ?¬â?¢s breathtaking adventure, unexpected plot twists, and even a bit of exotic romance. Podojil also includes some sincere family dynamics, showing how relationships between parents and children can change and evolve.
Its a dense story, with many threads weaving together towards an exhilarating conclusion. Podojil does a fantastic job of making the settings real and the tension palpable. He starts the story slowly, introducing characters and plot elements, and once the pieces are all in place things begin to take off.
I appreciate how well he built his characters, giving them faults, making them misinterpret intentions, and having them say the wrong thing at the wrong time. I thought it was interesting that while the novel is subtitled ââ?¬Å"The Herb Society Mysteries, Book One,ââ?¬Â? the bulk of the story is told from outside the group looking in.
Of course, the fact this has ââ?¬Å"Book Oneââ?¬Â? in the title alludes to there being more stories in the future. ââ?¬Å"The Poseidon Projectââ?¬Â? wraps up cleanly, but the characters seem poised for another adventure once again to break up the monotony of their cozy lives.
I recommend this book to lovers of good adventure/mysteries and stories with interesting and unexpected twists. Its a satisfying tale that keeps readers engaged until the last page.

FABULOUS ADVENTURE
Dollycas's Thoughts
When Molly Halloran's husband is abducted she, her son Lukas, and her friends board a plane to travel to the Middle East to save him. They are prepared to pay the huge ransom but when they find out why he was taken they know they have to save more than one man. They need to save the world!

I have to be careful what I say because I don't want to give anything away.
I love a story that features strong women and The Poseidon Project has several of them. There are strong men too.Ã? Molly Halloran and her friends are retired but they have one heck of a past. Her son Lukas is well known in the tech industry and her husband John runs a successful international company. We also meet Taylor who owns a private airline and his daughter Tory is one of his pilots. The characters developed brilliantly throughout the story. They are real with flaws, opinions, and knowledge, and are so interesting.
Mr. Podojil takes his characters on a wild adventure. Once you start reading - hold on tight. The story starts with a slow build but soon the pace becomes brisk and the book is impossible to put down. The author weaves together intricate plotlines with some epic twists. My heart was racing more often than not cheering for Molly and the others. It is truly a story of good vs. evil.
The author does an excellent job of setting the scene. From Tucson, Arizona, to Dubai and around the Middle East, in the air and on the ground, his words created vivid images in my mind. There are scientific elements within the book but he made sure they are layman-friendly and easily understandable.
The Poseidon Project is a fabulous mystery adventure full of action and suspense with dynamic characters, a bit of romance, and international and environmental dangers. The sensational ending wraps up all the loose ends including an Epilogue that jumps ahead two years to catch up with the characters. With this being Book 1 of The Herb Society Mysteries and the last few paragraphs of the Epilogue I am excited to say it looks like there will be more action-packed adventures. I can't wait!
I am adding The Poseidon Project to my Best Reads List for 2024. I totally escaped into it and was hooked from the first page to the last and the book has stuck with me since I turned that final page.Ã? Ã?
Beware the book does include some explicit language but was appropriate for the situations.Ã?
