Aaoyfvf)s: the epithet recurs in XI. 15, but elsewhere is found only in a quotation from an unnamed lyric poet (assumed by Bergk to be Simonides) in Aristotle, Rhet. III. 8. 59, 60. YpovTa was conjectured by Blass and KaTlvarrc by Palmer; and the former led to the identification of a fragment containing parts of the endings of 11. 59-65. 62. EllEME A, corr. on metrical grounds. 65. trio Palmer. 67, 68. oo-ris y.-r Palmer. IAINETAI A, corr. A3. 72. nOT NOT A, apparently, corr. A1? would send gifts greater than Hieron--of the men at least who inhabit Hellas (Jebb). There is a stop in the MS. at the end of 1. 62, which indicates that this is the proper division of the clauses. The paragraphia between 11. 63 and 64 should presumably have come after 1. 64, marking tb.3 end of the antistrophe. 64. iieyaivr)T(: the last syllable is lengthened in arsis, which rather helps than increases the licence of the hiatus. The accent shows that fuyaivryrt is to be regarded as one word (similar in formation to iiffqpara in Hesiod, Theog. 240), not as two, with piy' adverbial. Cf. I. 16. 69. Krjiwv: or possibly Krjiov. 71. Kaiv re Mepo--: Professor Palmer was the first to point out that this mutilated line, with the letters Koivreiitpo, probably contains a reference to Cos, which also bore the name of Mtpoiris. Possibly, as Jebb adds, the reference is to the person, Cos the son of Merops. It is not clear, however, in what connexion the name is mentioned here. 72. Maia: perhaps mentioned in connexion with the worship of Apollo there, cf. Thuc. VII. 26, 2; Paus. III. 12, 8 (Jebb).... CKorreiCBPAXf..'6CCAA'6AniCYn..PIO)N0A'ANAE.'.oceinei6PH Col. 5...
