For three score years and more the time and place of his birth were unknown. His early biographers gave 1811 as the time, and Baltimore as the place of his birth. In order to ascertain the truth about the matter, I con sulted Mrs. Maria Clemm, the poet's aunt and mother-in - law, who told me that he was born in Boston, on the lgth of January, 1809.
