Seller's Description:
Front cover (also old label) G PB. "This is a great book. Its subject is the sum of things: nothing less than God and the universe." Arnold Toynbee. Chardin was born in Auvergne in France in 1881 and died in 1955. He was a biologist, a paleontologist of world renown and also a Jesuit father. He spent a good deal of his time in China where he spent a good deal of his time in the discovery of Peking Man in 1929. This is his most important work as he applied his whole life, his tremendous intellect, and his great spiritual faith to the concept of building up a a philosophy that would reconcile Christian theology with the scientific theory of evolution, that would relate the facts of religious experience to those of natural science, the quintessence of his thought. Its subject could be described as a the surging evolution of the world from the primal stuff of the universe, through life. to consciousness and man. He was a visionary who looked forward with confidence to man's further development to increase our knowledge and our love. (from the introduction by Huxley)
