This movie has some pretty good songs. Its was filmed during a live performance so the screen value is not the same as a big budget production. Still it is very entertaining to watch. Elizabeth Walsh is an excellent Christine. She has a warm friendly personality which comes across on screen.
David Staller does fine as the phantom though he is not match for Michael Crawford or Charels Dance. Staller shines with the dark comedy of the play. Its also interesting that the mask is black despite the picture on the cover. The black mask is the closest version to one Leroux descibed in the original book.
This is a great movie with a shot gun style wedding towards the end. Its very dramatic and entertaining. This film is wonderful to watch over and over again. Phantom fans should all enjoy it as well as anyone who loves quality entertainment. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was due to the violent ending though there isn't blood. Its still pretty intense and rather sad for the phantom. That character never gets a happy ending.
