A well written book about the founding and first few years of Ebay's corporate existence. This is a really interesting story about a simple idea and the potential and power of the Internet as a technology to make that idea transformative.
I also think it illustrates the danger of going public. This simple, noble, elegant idea has now been subsumed by a drive for growth for growth's sake in order to prop up share price. As a result, if you look at Ebay today, the simple company founded by Pierre Omidyar is barely visible. Rather than focus on sellers, buyers and community, the drive now is for revenues, profits, and growth (growth above all else, BTW).
