This is the final book in the American Family Portrait series featuring the Morgan family in the 1960's. The parents, Nat and Allegra represent the establishment. Ttheir daughter Paige is an anti-war demonstrator who gets caught up in the riots at university and elsewhere. She later becomes a Christian in a commune with "Jesus-freaks". Her brother, Travis, goes to fight in Vietnam and comes home disillusioned and scarred by what he has witnessed. It covers many of the events of that turbulent decade, as the characters either experience or hear about them. I personally don't care for that decade, and didn't think I'd like this book because of it, but Cavanaugh does a good job of telling a captivating story about characters you care enough about to be pleased when they make it through on the other side.
