Seller's Description:
Fine. Issued Without a Dust Jacket. Book. 8vo-over 7¾-9¾" tall. Signed by Author(s) SIGNED by Bill Tom, Pauite Tribal Chairman. One of 15000 copies, this is number 7934. This edition was issued in both softcover and hardcover, this is the soft cover edition. The Paiute's home is on the 'Kaibab Plateau'with insufficent supplies of water. There is linguistic and archaeological evidence that Numic speakers spread across the Great Basin into thenorthern portion of the Southwest some time shortly after A.D. 1000, replacing prehistoric Pueblo or Pueblo-like peoples who had earlied lived inthe region. The paiute pottery was brown or reddish-brown and often decorated with rows of "finger-nail" incisions. Archaeologists have also uncovered milling stones, rectangular slabs with surfaces roughened by pecking them with a harder stone. These are still used by the Paiute for pounding various wild food products such as seeds, pine nuts and meat as well as for grinding corn, quite different from the troughed grinding stones of the Pueblo. Author Euler is Professor of Anthropology at Prescott College in Arizona and has done extensive archaeological and ethnohistorical research among the Southern Paiute.
