Front board is detached, spine back is chipped and partly degraded, else a very good unopened copy. An early, detailed history of the Oregon Territory, with chapters on its exploration, settlement, the Hudson's Bay Company, Native American tribes, and the competing British and American claims. Nicolay was a staunch advocate of the British side of the Oregon dispute, urging that the northern boundary of California be accepted as the natural line between the two countries.
