For cleaning tips I suggest Heloise II, daughter of the original "hints from Heloise''. They both try every tip they publish, to make sure it works.
This book contains a lot of advice I"ve seen elsewhere, and some that I question. Using 'vinegar & oil' (one of Smallin's suggestions) to polish wood furniture will leave a residue that attracts more dust. Using H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) to remove stains from upholstered furniture is very likely to leave a light mark, IF it doesn't eat through the fabric, which H2O2 can do if left too long.
