Wherefore I, who have, at the request of one who might have commanded me, ' set myself to write all those cases which seem to me worthy of remembrance and from which pleasure and profit may be derived, stint not to set my pen awork, albeit the things which chance to be told appear hard to be believed and accordingly 1 purpose presently to reoord a story which will seem very strange to whoso readeth it.
