Are the New Testament documents reliable? Can we have confidence in their record of the life and teaching of Jesus and his followers? Such questions are fundamental for anyone approaching the New Testament. F F Bruce, formerly Rylands Professor of Biblical Criticism and Exegesis at the University of Manchester, was well qualified to answer them. This classic treatment has been revised by the author many times and reprinted regularly for more than half a century.

Depending on the time and depth of your walk, Bruce's explainations will trouble or satisfy you. I would not want this book to be the only reference I owned, but consider it one of many to help you "work out your salvation" or maybe better stated your understanding of the New Testament.. Well worth reading to gather "Gems" where you find them.

Worthy of examination
This book, first published in 1943, is remarkably up-to-date. It has been revised several times as archaelogical findings have uncovered more evidence that confirms the New Testament history and geography. I found especially interesting the evidence from the writings of Paul. The dates his letters were written can be confirmed by places and events he mentions in connection with his travels. At the time he wrote there were people still living who had witnessed the events described in the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. One common belief of today, that the character of Jesus was raised to the status of deity by writers 2 or 3 centuries after his death, is seriously in question after considering the evidence in this book.
