It's easy to see why, based on the evidence of this debut album, which features a sound that draws equally on the dark drum'n'bass work of artists like Photek and Source Direct, while also incorporating some of the party-time flavor of big beat practitioners like Fatboy Slim and the Chemical Brothers. "Raw Dog" is presented here in a tight, claustrophobic mix centered on a funky saturated synth riff and what sounds like actual guitar, and "Venusian Jazz" balances an ominous chordal backdrop with what sounds actual violin. "Space Jelly" is almost forbidding in its rhythmic complexity, but in a good way. There are a few tracks that stretch too few ideas too far, but for the most part this is a hugely enjoyable album.
