Seller's Description:
Very good. pp. xvi, (17)-313; xvi, (17)-424; with 68 fine hand-colored plates and two steel-engraved frontispiece portraits of Rondeletius (volume 1) and Humboldt (volume 2). Publisher's original purple pebble cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine, original green endpapers, sm 8vo. Volume 1 contains a short memoir of Rondelet and volume 2 has a short memoir of Humboldt. This work is from the series 'The Naturalist's Library' volume IV and volume VI, edited by Sir William Jardine. This is the second printing of the work published in 1843 just one year after the first edition in 1842. The hand-colored plates are very bright and clean. No ownership marks. As is usual with this set, the spines and bottom edges are light sunned which has turned the cloth a golden brown with no effect to the gilt titles; a tight and clean set in near fine condition.
