Seller's Description:
None. Very Good Indeed. The first edition of this novel by J M Capes. Really, very scarce. Complete in three volumes, bound as two. J M Capes (John Moore Capes) wrote several religious works including Four Years' Experience of the Catholic Religion and Reasons for Returning to the Church of England. This is the first edition of this extremely scarce fictional novel by Moore. From the library of Julian Goldsmid, a British lawyer, businessman and Liberal politician. He sat in the House of Commons between 1866 and 1896. He inherited Somerhill House, Tonbridge, Kent upon the death of his father. These books are from the Somerhill library as indicated from the bookplates to front pastedowns. Julian Goldsmid's name label to front boards. In half calf bindings with marbled boards. Externally, smart with just some minor patches of rubbing to the head and tail of spines, raised bands, joints and extremities. Prior owner's name plate to front boards, Julian Goldsmid, Somerhill. His bookplate is to front pastedowns also. Internally, both volumes are firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed.
