Seller's Description:
Very Good in Very Good jacket. Size: 6x1x9; Some short tears and edgewear to dustjacket. Those who believe that the modern house is the first step towards gracious living are invited into The Mexican House Old and New to take a look at a new perspective. Here even houses give the impression of having been 'born old', of having inherited grace, elegance, and an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality. Verna Cook Shipway and Warren Shipway spent years documenting the details of Mexican architecture and decoration. They traced the influences of the indigenous inhabitants, the Moorish and Baroque admixtures of the Conquistadors, and the native genius of Mexican architects and craftspeople, and they documented the results of their travels and observations. One of the most successful architects of her generation and America's first successful female architect, Verna Cook Salomonsky Shipway (1890-1978) had two distinct careers: as a registered architect who specialized in historicist domestic architecture in the New York City suburbs, and as a noted author of five books on Mexican domestic architecture.
