DULWICH Almshouses, Pesthouse-row, St. Luke's, founded by Edward Alleyn, Esq., in 1616, for ten poor men and women.--Dun's Almshouses, Westminster, erected by Cornelius Dun, Esq., in the time of Queen Elizabeth, for twenty poor widows.--Dyers' Almshouses, City-road, erected by Company, in 1775, for sixteen poor persons, free of the same, and widows.--Drapers' Company have the trust of management of Bancrofi's; Pernell's; three of Walters'; Edmondson's; Harmon's; and Melbourne's. EAST INDIA Almshouses, Poplar, were originally established as early as the date of their first charter, for the relief of the widows of mates and seamen who have died in the service. The present building was erected about thirty-five years back, (see Cotterell's.)--Edmondson's, Bromley, founded in 1706, by John Edmondson, Esq., for twelve poor persons, invested with the Drapers' Company.--Edwards', founded in 1717, by Mr. Edward Edwards, situate in Church-street, Blackfriars-road, for such poor persons who receive no alms from that, or any other parish; under the direction of the rector and parish officers of Christ Church, Surrey.--Emanuel College, (see page 111.) FISHMONGERS--A very extensive building at Newington, 42 in number, for poor members of Company, founded by letters patent of James I, and called St. Peter's Hospital.--Fisher's, Dog-row, Mile-end, erected and endowed by Captain Fisher, in 1711, for the widows of six ship masters, and under the trusteeship of the Corporation of the Trinity House.--French ProtesTant Almshouses, established 1733, situate in Spital-fields, for supplying poor French Protestants with soup, meat, and bread; also, in Black Eagle-street, is another establishment, giving residence and allowance to forty-five poor men and women.
