Of millions of publications on the theory of dislocations, plasticity and fracture few have ever addressed the practical reason why metals fracture - electron theory imples that metals cannot fracture and should be much tougher and fracture resistance than they are commonly produced by casting, forging, spray forming, 3D, PM etc. This book gives the basics of a developing theory that finally explains why metals fracture - bifilms and fractured bifilms on the order of nanometer sized non-metallic inclusions cripple metal from displaying plastic deformation good properties after drawing, rolling, sheet forming, forging etc. As John Campbell eloquently states on page 21 " It is amazing that such a simple mechansim could have arrived at the 21st century having escaped notice for thousands of years and more recently of thousands of workers, researches, and teachers".
Although the theory presented still needs some details refined the advancement this book give is welcomed. Nicely done Dr. Campbell.
