This is the creepiest book I've read in a long time. A body is discovered in a peat bog...and removed. Bad move for the residents of Bridelow, and bad karma as the psychic integrity of their rather secluded village begins to crumble and things that shouldn't happen, that wouldn't have happened if the body was left in the bog, occur. Like the bog oak that takes on the characteristics of a dragon, the musician who makes it rain bones at a private concert, and the dead assuming a putrid unlife. Phil Rickman doesn't resort to slice and dice tactics to gross out his readers. He skillfully uses character development and shamelessly uses atmosphere to seep into the most timid parts of your mind, much like your worst nightmares. He's a real artist at raising the hairs on the back of your neck! If your air conditioner dies this summer, read Man in The Moss and raise a good case of the chills!
