This story is about a woman who was always on the outside looking in because of a cousin that was pretty in appearance only. She has just a taste of passion by mistake with a notorious rake and remembers it from that moment on. Her life takes a turn of events when her grandfather fakes that his health is failing and makes her promise to marry the one man he knows would keep his land safe from an enemy just waiting for him to croak. Well of course the man is the one she got the taste of passion with the year before. When they both realize what the grandfather had done, she refuses to marry this man because she knows he would never be faithful to her and she knew she would fall hopelessly in love with him and be made a fool. The man, because he owes the old man, agrees but tells her what she had feared. He would never be faithful but he decides to seduce his wife first because his is a conqueror and she refuses to be conquered. His only mistake is that he falls in love with his wife in the process. He tries to fight it and has one fling with his old mistress but it doesn't feel right and then he realizes he loves his wife. Of course the wife sees his infidelity and leaves. She finds her grandfather in good health and that he plotted against this enemy on purpose to keep an old grudge going and force this marriage between his granddaughter and this Highlander. This story is about a man who decides to make a swan out of an ugly duckling and falls in love in the process. It's also about healing old wounds with enemies and people working out their problems. Again, Nicole puts enough twist in it to make you love the man and then hate him only to make you fall back in love with him in the end.
