KEEPS YOU GUESSING RIGHT TO THE FINALE!
Admittedly I purchased this used DVD of "The Loft" from Alibris solely for the fact one of its actors, Karl Urban, is currently my "celebrity crush", but, while it was lovely to see him stripped naked (TWICE!), and engaging in numerous sex scenes in the film, it was the taut, tense, well-paced plot of the movie that really sucked me in. "The Loft" is a revenge plot, loosely wrapped inside a murder mystery, contained within a well-constructed "keep 'em guessing" thriller. The numerous flashbacks in the film (which did not slow the film's action at all) provide the needed pieces of the puzzle to the mystery, while serving as excellent red herrings for the thriller, and you're kept guessing as to the truth of the situation until the very end of the movie. Although I'm biased, I do give Karl Urban high marks for his portrayal of the highly successful, ruthlessly ambitious, power and control hungry architect, Vincent Stephens, who, with a true Machiavellian touch, leads his 4 "good buddies" morally astray, and pays a steep, heavy price (this is where the revenge plot comes in) for his actions. However, there really weren't any stand-out, Oscar-worthy performances in this film, just good, solid ensemble work which allowed the plot to so carefully unfold and thus keep you guessing until the very end of the movie. I liked it very much and will no doubt view it again (and again, and again), if only to see Karl in the nude (no frontal though, alas!) TWICE! Hubba-hubba! I'm also grateful I stumbled across Alibris on the 'Net and not only found the site easy to order from, but was amazed at how many items, new or used, are available through it. Alibris was also very prompt in their delivery of my order as well, and kept me posted as to the order's progress through its system. Additionally, I was very, very impressed with the quality of this used DVD I ordered, and will definitely order more used DVDs in the future. So, would I recommend Alibris to my family and friends? You bet I would!
