Fair. 1st printing. Original 1/4 leather with gilt-stamped spine, & paper over boards. 108pp. Frontispiece ("I asked what became of her parents", etc.). Howes calls for an additional plate but it appears it was not bound in, as per other copies recorded. Early signature in beautiful hand of one Caroline Baldwin on blank leaf. On ffep in pencil, "Quincy." Preface opens, "In the year 1817 the writer of the following narrative, was employed by the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions, to visit several tribes of Indians, residing in the south western parts of the United States." As expected, the frontispiece & facing title page are thoroughly foxed. Some foxing & some staining to endpapers. The foxing to text is fairly minimal. Moderate wear to extremities. Fair copy.
