As evening draws in, their dad talks about steam trains. Suddenly, a gust of windblows open the shutter. Lightning flashes and Sarah runs out in the rain, waving her red hankerchief. James watches as the last train appears. Sara and James wave at the driver and he waves back. That night, in bed, Sarah and James lie awake, excited, listening for trains and whispering in the dark.
