Enjoy the Ride and the Book
When one picks up a Les Savage, Jr novel, one knows it will be an enjoyment to read, because of the unexpected--the unexpected settings, the unexpected and unusual characters, and the unexpected interaction between the characters. Indeed, as each "new" book of his emerges the true genius of the man is exposed for all of us. Too bad, during his short life he was never able to get editors to leave his work alone and publish as he wrote. But then that's the plight of all writers, some more so than others. The Last Ride is the story of a man pursued by the law because he has been marked as a cattle thief and a murderer, and as the story unfolds their relationship is what makes the story. This is an excellent book.
