Seller's Description:
None. Very Good Indeed. A biography of Francis Burney, the English novelist, diarist, and playwright, who was appointed by Queen Charlotte as 'Keeper of the Robes'. The work focuses on the period in her life in which she came through her connections to take up the post, and explores the manner of her life in the Georgian court. With charming plates of colour illustrations, displaying the portraits of some of the main persons to feature in the account. Includes a beautiful reproduction of Garrick and his Wife by Hogarth. In the original cloth with printed boards, showing gilt titles and a portrait. Externally very smart with just a little bumping to the head and tail of the spine. The text block is untrimmed and a little dusty as a result. Internally with contemporary ink inscriptions to the front pastedown and front free endpaper. With a 'Christmas Greetings' sticker to the front free endpaper. The first and last few pages are lightly spotted as usual, otherwise generally clean and bright, and generally firmly bound. Very Good Indeed.
