The hero gets a belt from a traveling vendor that seems to fit him perfectly. But, he can't take it off and soon turns into a jungle cat. The witch stories of old tell of people who have been turned into beasts by these belts and now he knows they are true. His Mother and brother who hates him have turned to sorcery to keep him from being eigible to become head of their small castle and lands.
He must find a way to remove he belt before becoming so totally taken over by the spirit of the animal that he can never return to human form. The trials he goes through and the challenges make this book a must read for any Norton, McCaffrey or Mercedes Lackey fan.
