This distinguished her alongside St. John of the Cross, both of whom reformed the Carmelite Order. After her death in the late 16th century, she was canonized as a Roman Catholic Saint. St. Teresa was also a writer during the Counter Reformation. El Castillo Interior (The Interior Castle) or Las Moradas (The Mansions) was written by St. Teresa of Avila in 1577. The work is based on a revelation Teresa believed was from God, and in the vision she saw a crystal globe in the shape of a castle, which contained seven mansions. St. Teresa went about attempting to interpret the vision, going on to describe the journey of faith through seven stages. The journey ends with a union with God.
