An well written and authoritative account of the formation and development of a wide range of non-conformist and fringe Christian groups and movements in Britain and the colonies in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. As well as more well known Non Conformists such as the Lutherans, Puritans and Quakers it includes lesser known and rarely documented sects such as Shakers, Seekers, Ranters and the Anabaptists, It is well written and contains much information seldom collated elsewhere. A rare volume. With a booksellers label to the tail of the front pastedown of 'William George's Sons Ltd. 89 Park Street, Bristol'. Ink inscription to the front free endpaper that reads, 'William Kitching. With love from his Sister, Sarah Kitching 5th of 5th Month, 1877. Illustrated with three plates, those being a frontispiece, plate and a folding plate. Collated complete. Rebacked, retaining the original cloth boards. In a full cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Light bumping to the spine. Heavier bumping to the extremities, with rubbing to the front and rear boards. Repairs to the front and rear endpaper, and hinges. Bookseller's label to the tail of the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally clean. Light spots to the first and last few pages, and with the odd mark throughout. Heavy offsetting to page 440, caused by illustrated plate. Numerous pencil annotations to the reverse of the rear endpaper. Very Good Indeed.
