Excerpt from The Inner Life of the Christian From the time that Dr. Ranch arrived in America, he had devoted himself with great assiduity to the study Of the language Of his adopted country, and soon acquired a thorough knowledge of its laws and idioms; and, if we except pronunciation, he may be said to have mastered nearly all its peculiarities. Hence he began to use the English language in the class-room as soon as he took charge Of the School at York. He Opened a regular Sunday Service in the College Chapel for the particular benefit of the students, and took his turn with his colleagues in the public preaching Of the Gospel.
