The Beaver also became "the generals' Jeep" during the Korean War -- and the generals' favorite transport to fishing spots in peacetime.

Having spent some time in British Columbia, I was introduced to this amazing aeroplane, and flew in it a few times. Two seconds of the sound of a Beaver would transport me straight back there. And what extraordinary durablilty - I have photographs of Beavers tied to docks looking as if they had just come out of the factory!
Sean Rossiter is clearly very knowledgable about the Beaver and I learned a lot. However, his account is an example of a common problem in such works - expertise in a subject does not necessarily confer the ability to write - I found it a hard read.
I was also sorry that there were not more accounts of bush flying and stories that demonstrated why the Beaver is so good at it.
