Allow to cool to the ordinary temperature and add 5 g of sodium oxalate. Upon shaking carefully, while maintaining the current of air, the oxalate slowly dissolves. If the solution is red, not more than 4 drops of decinormal acid should be required to render it colorless, while if the solution is colorless, it should acquire a distinct red color upon the addition of not more than 2 drops of decinormal sodium hydroxide.
