First, I love Billie Letts' writing. It's part of a genre that tells stories about people I can easily imagine actually existing and situations that are sometimes painfully real and sometimes joyously funny. I've known Vietnam vets, and hitchhiker girls, and short order cooks, and in the old days I ate and drank in places just like the Honk. It's a novel about apparent failures that lead to great successes, about how we foolish people can somehow grow wise, about how just existing evolves into genuine living. I'd like to live down the road from the Hoot, to have them know what my daily breakfast order was going to be, to be included in their jokes and gossip. This book is about as close to that as I'll ever get, and I know that I'll re-read it again soon and many times in the future.

Heartwarming
This book renews my belief that there is someone for everyone in this world.
I would love to meet people like these.

A delightful book!
You can?t help but love the residents of Sequoyah, Oklahoma ? a small town where, for better or worse, neighbors become family. Caney, a handicapped veteran has not left his café (the ?Honk?) since it opened, but he is far from isolated. Life swirls around him as the community deals with loss, love, bigotry, and blessings that will change his life forever. This book may make Billie Letts one of your favorite authors. Her writing speaks to the realities of life with a sense of humor and tenderness that leaves you feeling good.
